What causes me to disconnect from online games and ventrilo when people get on my network?

I use a WRT54GS Linksys wireless router. Every time that someone gets on the network I get disconnected from what I am doing. Like when my roommate comes home and turns on his laptop and connects to the network, it disconnects me from whatever I am on ie: online games and ventrilo servers etc. There are only two other people that use the network but they happen to turn their computers on and off a lot. Anyone know why this is and if there is a solution to this?

1. are they wireless too? they may have a program or a virus that is steeling all the bandwidth, your signal could be too weak, go into router settings and turn up the transmittion rate, change the wireless channel, try downloading linksys network manager from their website.
