Game Plugs

A game for my playstation2 wont pick up my controller the game loads but wont play! What do i do?

I have tried like 3 different controllers and they all do the same thing. The game loads but it says "please plug in controller" I have tried blowing the port and the controller, and that hasn't made a difference!
