KID'S INTERNET COMPUTER - HOW FAST,HOW MUCH MEM AND $?

We are putting a computer downstaris which will be used almost exclusivly for internet and email, much of the internet is online games played by my 7 year old (Webkins, Toontown, Nick Arcade). Don't want to spend a fortune since, God only knows what they and their friends may accidentally do to it. What should I look for in the following" -processor -system memory -hard drive and any other features I need (other than an OS)

Public Comments

  1. -processor - dual core processor -system memory - look for 2GB of RAM or more -hard drive - most these days is 300GB or more
  2. You won't need much, I recommend looking into a cheap dell such as this http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=ddcwfa1&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&kc=productdetails~inspndt_530s without any upgrades and if you need a monitor, I recommend checking out http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254005. Feel free to contact me via the email in my profile with absolutely any questions.

  4. Get em a netbook. Acer aspire, Dell Mini 1, Ausus Eee PC. They are all able to handle what you want to do for the sub 300 dollar range
  5. Most/all the computers out there can do all the things you listed. You don't need a really fast computer so... Windows XP/Vista, processor speed, 1.7GHz+, 512MB, 1GB or 2GB of RAM (most computers out there are 1GB or 2GB, but 1GB is good for XP), 160GB hard drive is good. You can get single core windows XPs for under $200 (under $150 even), or $300- $400 in stores (2.0Ghz+ dual core, Windows VIsta, 1GB RAM 160GB harddrive, ...19" monitor included maybe).
  6. a three to four hundred dollar desktop would be your best bet. At that price point I'd consider dell first, then hp/compaq. you can get a dell 530 for only 279 Do NOT buy a slim or slimline tower. It will be hard to upgrade or repair later. Mid tower or regular full size tower will keep your investment running for many years. Make sure you tech them about internet safety.
