Ever-time i plug my game-cube controller into my Wii remote?

Everytime i plug my gamecube controller into my Wii remote, the wii remote turns off, and i am not able to play the game, and i just bought the gamecube remote today? The instructions state to plug it into the controller, just as you were doing with the classic controller.

1. I don't believe you can plug a gamecube controller into a wii remote. You can plug it in a WII, not a wii remote.
