How do volleyball games work in high school?

So since there is a Freshman, JV, and a Varsity team how do the games go? I know all 3 teams play games but on my preseason schedule it says "1st game", so would it be all teams or just one of them? Also, The coaches assign you positions but if you switch positions then whats the point? This is my first year of high school volleyball so please help.

1. Usually all 3 teams will play on one night against other teams in the same category. For changing positions, I think you are asking about rotating? If you are playing a position in the front row, usually you will go to that position for all three of the rotations on the front row. So even though you rotate, you will switch back to that position after the ball is served (to outside hitter or middle blocker). Once you rotate to the back row, you can't switch up to the front row, but you can still switch to different spots on the back row. Usually the setter will be in the back right and your strongest defensive player will play middle back.
