I need some ideas for a party for my 4 year old?

I thought about renting one of those inflatable bouncers but my husband said NO. So I just need some ideas of games and things to play. This is her first b-day party with friends coming. She will probably do a princess theme. Or Barbie, but there will be little boys invited. I thought about a dress up party but one of the girls who is coming did her party like that so I really dont want something that anyone of her friends has already done.

1. Check out the foodnetwork.com, then look up Sandra Lees Semi-Homemade. She always has ideas for parties. I know she did a cute party for little girls.
2. how about a kiddie pool party? or some other theme like sponagebob and you can have like sponges in the pool and a sponge cake or what about a fantasy theme? the kids don't need to dress up but you can make your backyard (or where ever your having the party) like all magical and stuff or just have a pizza party and som ice cream (: or the future theme that would be cool everything would all be silver haha hmmm or hollywood theme in one spot could be like a photo-shoot place and just put some dress up clothes outside the kids can dress themselves upand take pictures and pretend tobe directors hahaha but i like hte spongebob theme the best i love spongebob (:
3. i just did a mermaid pirate party theme the kids had a blast i had my mother in law draw aerial on big poster board and we played pin the tail on the mermaid i had little mermaid trivia and pirate trivia game easy questions i had a scavenger hunt which was a wild goose chase leading to the pinata as the prize musical chairs is always a favoite i did musical islands i used my daughters candy land dvd mats as islands you can do just about anything and of course i bought my prizes and the boys pirate stuff at the dollar store. they even had some little mermaid party favors there as well.
